Top Attractions

Chiostro di San Francesco

A gorgeous 14th century monastery like this deserves to be visited! The cloisters are not only a serene hideaway to rest your weary bones, but also play host to concerts and theatrical performances from time to time. Located just a stone’s throw from the lively San Antonio Piazza, this combination of monastery and Church displays a beautiful mix of Roman, Medieval and Arabic architecture. Wander the vine covered gardens of the cloisters and relax in the shade of the arch lined walkways.

I Giardini di Cataldo

What’s a trip to Sorrento without a little limoncello? This mini citrus grove is probably the most well-known in the city and is open to tours and tastings in its gardens and factory. The Esposito family have lovingly looked after the gardens since the 19th century and are now one of the most famous producers in Southern Italy. As well as the world renowned liquor, you can also try their artisan marmalade and home-made gelato.

Sorrento Cathedral

From the outside, Sorrento’s main place of worship might look like any ordinary Church. Don’t be fooled! Inside, this Romanesque-style 11th-century cathedral is brimming with glowing marble alcoves and rich works of art by Italian painters like Nicola Malinconico and Giacomo del Po. If you’re exploring the historic quarter of the city centre, be sure to check out the Sedile Dominova. Pause for a coffee at the cafe with views of this exquisite mansion.

Amalfi Coast

Although not technically a part of the Amalfi Coast, Sorrento is an excellent base for visiting some of the gorgeous towns dotted along the Mediterranean. From Sorrento, you can easily take a day trip to Capri or Ischia or even the Bay of Naples for incredible views of Mount Vesuvius. Sit back with a cocktail, soak up the sun and admire the view or, get adventurous and explore the caves and crystal clear waters of this sparkling coastline.

Getting There

The city is well-connected to the rest of Italy by train or ferry, whilst also being within easy reach of Pompeii and Vesuvius for day trips!
