My name is Nienke Anneleen Schuur.
I am 20 years old and originally I am from a small city called Stadskanaal.
I live in Groningen, Netherlands.
Groningen is the most fun student city in the Netherlands and also the biggest city in the North. It is the home of one of the biggest universities and it’s often described as a ‘small Amsterdam’. There are cute canals, a big town square with its own market every week, and a lot of places to shop.
The evening time is a lot more laid back and you can definitely feel that through the city and the overall vibe. It’s definitely not the most popular city for tourism but it is incredibly beautiful and you’re missing out if you don’t visit!
For my university I had to go abroad for one year. Half of the year is studying and the other half consists of an internship.
I had been searching for an opportunity to intern for around two months before I found the vacancy posted by Euroventure and it was just a perfect match. I applied and about half an hour later I got a message asking if I wanted to have a Skype meeting.
Two days later, we sat down to have our Skype meeting and of course, technology failed us. We tried Skype and WhatsApp before finally Facebook Messenger worked! I was so anxious because I was desperate to get this internship and somehow it all came through and I got the place!
Leeds feels very similar to Groningen. It’s a student orientated city with interesting people wherever you go. I love that just out of the city you can find beautiful hills, incredible nature and so many different places to visit. It’s quite different because you don’t get these sights in the Netherlands so I’m definitely making the most of it whilst I’m here.
Travel the world and do everything you want to do but I know that’s kind of cliche. I think my main goal is to start my own company though. I just want to climb the most amazing mountains all over the world and ride down them on my bike without crashing!
That’s such a hard question! I think it has to be Tromsø in Norway. I went there with my boyfriend in October 2018 and it is just so spectacular! I love the cold air hitting my face, the mountains, the fjords, the snow and just everything. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the Northern Lights but it didn’t spoil Tromsø for me!
Next on my list is either Greenland, Canada or Alaska. Maybe I could even do a road trip around them! I’d also love to go to Chile and pretty much all of South America; mainly to see the nature!
