A budget friendly tour of two culturally rich countries ticks all the boxes of how to best spend 12 nights away in Southern Europe.
From Madrid, you’ll head to Toledo, a treasure chest of art and historical architecture, which normally would keep you talking about it for days – if it wasn’t so soon followed up in Granada, with an included visit to the incredible Alhambra. You’ll soon learn that the Moors and their kings had a massive impact and influence, not only on Granada and the Alhambra. As you explore further Moorish architecture, you’ll find yourself hard pressed to choose your favourite destination in Andalucia, which also boasts the likes of historic Cordoba and stunning Seville too, as you work your way towards Portugal.
Once you’ve crossed the border, a local guide will show you the best of Lisbon, including the Belem Tower, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built to commemorate the expedition of Vasco de Gama; as well as Porto’s cathedral, which has a panoramic view over the port wine cellars on the banks of the Douro River. In addition to the tours in Lisbon and Porto, you’ll be able to enjoy guided sightseeing tours in Toledo, Granada, Seville, Madrid and Cordoba too – as well as loads of optional extra activities!

Make your way to The Hotel Praga in Madrid, drop your bags off and spend the day relaxing, exploring or sampling the local tapas before your tour gets underway that evening, when you meet your Tour Leader and fellow travellers.
The next morning, is a picturesque drive South, with the first stop being the incredible Toledo, to marvel at it’s ancient art and architecture and of course the Castle of San Servando. Once you’ve explored the walled Old Town, it’s back on the coach to another once-walled medieval city.

Once the Moors’ most treasured city – you’ll visit their crowning masterpiece of Andalucia, with an included tour of the Alhambra. With incredible views over the city, framed by the Sierra Navada range – make sure you take the time to properly appreciate the minute detailing in every single corner of these buildings – which despite being early on in your itinerary, are sure to be a highlight of the whole trip!
Once you’re back down the hill, explore the unique neighbourhoods of the city or simply get lost in the mazy streets – you’re almost guaranteed to stumble on a great tapas bar.

Another scenic drive towards Cordoba and a quick stop off at an olive farm to learn about their importance to the region – and of course sample some olive oil too. When you arrive in Cordoba, you’ll immediately be taken back by the different layers of history on display here – which are most apparent in the mesmirising Mezquita, which you’ll explore with a local guide.

The capital of Andalucia, and sure to be a highlight of the whole tour. The vibrant city of Seville is sure to keep you busy during your time here with no end of things to see and do. Kick off your stay with an included tour of the city, ticking off all of the highlights including La Giralda and Plaza de España. For more spectacular Moorish architecture, make sure you don’t miss visiting the Real Alcazar.
Once you’ve drank enough orange wine it’s time to head to Portugal!
Luxury Coach to Evora
A quick pit stop in the attractive Evora en route to Lisbon before eaching the capital, otherwise known as “Mistress of the Seas”. You’ll take a guided sightseeing tour and visit the famous landmarks of the Belem Tower, Moorish Citadel and Black Horse Square. At your own pace later on, explore the tiled-streets of the Alfama streets before enjoying the sun-set from one of the many rooftop bars.

Once you’ve left Lisbon, you’ll visit Fatima to see its world-famous sanctuary, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, before heading onto towards the Northern bank of the Douro River and checking into Porto.
Here, you’ll have the option to take a river cruise, or retire early with a glass of the local good stuff! The following morning, join a guided tour of the centre, see the historical cathedral and visit a Port wine cellar too.

Return to Spain and nature as you make your way through mountains and the scenic Douro Valley. You’ll arrive in the early evening – the perfect time for strolling around the Plaza Mayor and sitting down for a nice meal.
Luxury Coach to Ávila
After a visit to fortified Avila and another stop in Segovia – your trip will end back where you start in Madrid. You’ll take an included guided tour and spend your last evening with the group, as you reflect on the memories you’ve made together over the past 13 days.
