Top Attractions

Old Town

It’s very easy to go sightseeing on foot in Ljubljana. The old town is a very picturesque part of the city and you’ll be able to walk by most of the city’s landmarks: the Triple Bridge, Preseren Square and the Franciscan Church of Annunciation, with its unique, beautiful red colour.

According to legend, a dragon lived on the riverbanks and preyed on the locals. The Greek hero Jason is said to have slayed the dragon and freed the inhabitants. Dragon Bridge is one of the iconic symbols of the city and is guarded by four dragons, watching the river.

Ljubljana Castle

Sitting on top of the highest hill of the city is Ljubljanski grad. It’s the white castle depicted on the city’s coat of arms. From there, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the city and learn a lot about the castle’s 900-year-old history. It also houses different permanent exhibitions, including the Museum of Puppetry.

Metelkova Mesto

Not far from Ljubljana’s main train station is Metelkova Mesto. These former army barracks have been turned into an open air modern art gallery. From colourful murals and graffiti to sculptures and mosaics, the art featured there is unique. In summer, many concerts and festivals are held there.

Lake Bled

When in Ljubljana, you have the opportunity to take a day trip to Lake Bled. It’s one of the most magical lakes in Europe – one of the biggest too! Take a walk around the lake or a boat to the small island in the middle. You can visit both the church and the castle.
